The 2020-2021 Grants to Professional Arts Organizations Program is now open.
NEW APPLICATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY APRIL 15, 2020 4 p.m.
The program has two funding streams, operating assistance and project assistance, and offers funding to registered not-for-profit professional arts organizations operating within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Interested applicants are advised to review the guidelines and application information for both streams prior to making application. Links to program documents are included below.

Peer evaluators needed
Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking peer evaluators of the Municipality’s Grants to Professional Arts Organizations Program.
The program accepts submissions on an ongoing basis however those individuals interested in participating in the 2020-2021 application assessment must submit by end of day March 13th, 2020.
Eligible applicants will be added to a standing roster of prospective jurors. Members will be selected from this roster annually and invited to perform assessment of applications to the Grant Program.
Reviewers will be paid a fee of $150.00 for attending one in-person meeting (est. 6-7 hours). Reviewers will be paid a $100.00 reading fee for the review of 39 applications or less. Reviewers will be paid a fee of $150 for the review of 40 or more applications.
Interested residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality wishing to be added to the active roster should submit the following:
- A CV outlining the applicant’s relevant professional, academic, community and associated experience.
- Current contact information including:

- Phone Number(s)
- Email Address
- (Optional) Applicants may also wish to include a brief introductory cover letter describing the applicant’s expertise and/or role within the local arts community (250 words maximum).

Poet Laureate- Accepting Submissions
Request for Submission: Municipal Poet Laureate 2020-2023
The Halifax Regional Municipality is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Poet Laureate. The Laureate acts as an ambassador and advocate for literacy, literature and the arts and serves to reflect the breadth, complexity and vitality of the community during their tenure.
The Laureate will serve a three-year term beginning April 2020 and ending March 31, 2023. Details regarding the role and the responsibilities of the position, as well as the necessary information regarding the requirements of application, can be found via the link below.
