Friday night bus detours for Macdonald Bridge re-decking project

Monday, July 13, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Transit is advising passengers of required detours going into effect on Friday evenings starting on July 17, as a result of new Friday evening Macdonald Bridge closures.

Halifax Harbour Bridges has advised that continuous overnight bridge closures will now be in effect from Sunday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. to accommodate the Macdonald Bridge re-decking project.

Bus routes that normally cross the Macdonald Bridge on Friday evenings will detour as follows over the MacKay Bridge instead, beginning at 6:30 p.m. until the end of the service day, from July 17 until August 21:

Routes 1 Spring Garden, 10 Westphal, 61 North Preston and 320 MetroX Airport/Fall River:

To Dartmouth, buses will travel straight on Gottingen Street, left on Young Street, right on Robie Street to Massachusetts Avenue, MacKay Bridge, right on Victoria Road, right on Thistle Street, right into the Bridge Terminal. Please note that North Street at Gottingen Street will be the last pickup for these routes, with drop offs serviced at all stops along the detour route.

To Halifax, buses will travel on Wyse Road, right on Boland Road, left on Victoria Road, right onto ramp to Highway 111, MacKay Bridge, Barrington Street, and return to regular routing. Please note drop offs only until Barrington Street at Artz Street, then return to regular service.

Route 52 Crosstown:

To Dartmouth, buses will travel on North Street, left on Gottingen Street, left on Young Street, right on Robie Street to Massachusetts Avenue, MacKay Bridge, right on Victoria Road, right on Thistle Street, right into the Bridge Terminal. Please note the bus stop on the east side of Creighton Street on North Street will be the last pickup, with drops offs serviced at all stops along the detour route.

To Halifax, buses will travel from Wyse Road, right on Boland Road, left on Victoria Road, ramp to Highway 111, MacKay Bridge, Barrington Street, right on North Street and return to regular routing. Please note that drop offs will be serviced at all stops along the detour route.

MacKay Bridge Shuttles

Halifax Transit is currently operating shuttles between the Scotia Square Terminal and the Bridge Terminal on Sunday through Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. until the end of the service day, as a result of the bridge closures. The shuttle service will be implemented on all affected routes on Friday evenings as well, starting the week of August 24, to coincide with regular transit schedule adjustments.

Halifax Transit regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by these detours. It is important to note that peak weekday commuting travel will not be impacted in any way.
