In their continued effort to address traffic safety and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit will focus on driving appropriately for weather conditions during the month of January.

Members of the Unit will be on the lookout for drivers who have failed to properly clear their vehicles of snow and ice and aren’t driving appropriately for the road conditions. Motorists are reminded that winter driving conditions can vary dramatically and require the driver’s full attention.

The unit’s focus in December was Operation Christmas. Checkpoints targeting impaired drivers were conducted throughout the region, resulting in four criminal impaired driving charges and three seven-day driver’s license suspensions. During the month, a total of 130 Summary Offence Tickets were issued for a variety of Motor Vehicle Act offences bringing the total of tickets issued for 2014 to 3,650 for the Traffic Unit only.
