Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that due to the weather, all municipal offices and contact centres in the region will be delaying opening until 10 a.m. today.

Most areas of Halifax received a combination of 25 to 35 centimetres of snow and ice pellets mixed with rain overnight. There are still flurries in some areas this morning with high winds causing drifting and reduced visibility.

Crews have been maintaining Priority 1 routes, although a rapid drop in air temperature is expected to cause icy conditions. About 50 per cent of Priority 2 routes are cut open but drifting and blowing snow is impeding any further progress. Crews will shift their focus to Priority 1 routes during the morning commute and freeze-up.

Sidewalk work has started overnight and it should be noted that under these conditions progress will be impeded by street pushback and drifting.

Delaying opening to later this morning will allow crews to continue clearing and ensure a safer commute for our employees and residents. Anyone out today is urged to travel safely and pay close attention to the road conditions.
