Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality would like to advise residents that summer weekly green cart collection will wrap up for the season on Friday, Aug. 29.
This is the first year that weekly collection in the summer was offered to all residents in the Halifax region. Prior to that, the extended service was available to residents in select communities since 2004 to help cope with odour and animal issues that can come with having organics sit for long periods in hot temperatures.
Green cart collection will return to the regular two-week green cart/garbage collection schedule on Saturday, Aug. 30. That is the designated collection day for those who would usually have service on Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
Residents should refer to their 2014 Organics Green Cart and Garbage Collection Schedule for regular collection information, call 311 or go online at www.halifax.ca/recycle.
Residents are encouraged, if possible, to place their waste at the curb the evening prior to ensure service, as collection can begin as early as 7 a.m. in some areas.
