Household Special Waste Depot

The Household Special Waste (HSW) drop-off depot is operated by a certified contractor and accepts chemical waste generated in your home. Mobile HSW Depots are scheduled on Saturdays between May and October. A full schedule is available on this page.

Book a Presentation

Halifax Solid Waste offers free presentations and workshops to schools, universities, businesses and community groups.

Organize a Litter Cleanup

Groups who register for the Great NS Pick Me Up will be provided with a free kit that includes clear garbage bags, blue recycling bags, and a select number of nitrile gloves. A leaflet outlining disposal procedures is also included in the kit.

Events

Halifax Solid Waste staff regularly attend and host events throughout the municipality. If you have an event that you would like our staff to attend please contact us at wasteless@halifax.ca.

Waste Management for Businesses

Businesses (including restaurants, apartment buildings, and institutions) are required to have sorting programs and commercial containers for disposal of blue bag recyclables, paper and cardboard, organic materials, and garbage.
