About District 1

District 1 has a population of nearly 21,000 residents and is made up of suburban residential neighborhoods and rural farming communities.

Known for its pristine lakes, natural forests and beautiful wilderness areas, the Musquodoboit region is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise and is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. The picturesque Musquodoboit River flows through the majority of the valley and passes through the communities of Upper and Middle Musquodoboit, Elderbank, and Meagher's Grant. The upper part of the Musquodoboit Valley comprises the largest farming district in HRM, while Upper and Middle Musquodoboit  serve as a centre for many of the surrounding communities and have a hospital, RCMP outlet, schools, recreation centre, and library.
