Matt Whitman is a life-long resident of HRM and is passionate about the City. He honours the past by respecting heritage and veterans. He is responsive and action-oriented in managing present-day issues. He has a vision for the future which involves sustainable growth.
Matt graduated from St. Mary’s University in 1992 with a geography degree. Prior to his role as an elected official, Matt spent twenty years as a Finance and Information Technology Professional. He is known for being a connector – bringing people together to improve families, communities and businesses. Matt is very proud of his son and daughter who are both pursing business degrees in Nova Scotia.
Matt Whitman was first elected to Halifax Regional Council in 2012, representing District 13 – Hammonds Plains – St. Margarets. Councillor Whitman was elected by his colleagues to the one-year term of Deputy Mayor in 2015/16.
