Steve was elected to represent the residents of District 15 – Lower Sackville in the October 2012 and 2016 Municipal Elections. On November 8, 2016, Councillor Craig was elected by his peers on Regional Council to serve as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term.
Steve has a 30 year communications industry career. He has served his community effectively for 30 years, and has made a significant contribution to the community of Sackville.
Steve lives with his wife Shari in Lower Sackville. They have two adult children, Marlo and Jonathan, daughter-in-law Melissa Sansom, and the joy of their life, grandson Stephen.
Steve first began community service in the 1970. He served both as Chair and member of the Board of Directors of the Cobequid Multi-Service Centre (now the Cobequid Community Health Centre), and a member of the Nova Scotia Environmental Control Council and its Halifax Harbour Clean-up Review Committee. Steve was a long-term member and past President of the Lake District Recreation Association.
As a municipal appointee, Steve served as Chair of the Highway 101 Sanitary Landfill Closeout Committee which resulted in $5,000,000 compensation for a number of implemented community recommendations.
In 2003 Steve started the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Sackville to help celebrate cancer survivors, remember and honour those with cancer, and fight back against cancer. Since then, he has sat on the Canadian Cancer Society Nova Scotia Division’s Board of Directors, and subsequently appointed to the national Board of Directors in 2010.
Steve was honoured with three meaningful awards. The 2001 Sackville Volunteer of the Year from the community, and the Halifax Regional Municipality’s HRM Millennium Medallion for outstanding community contribution and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Outstanding Service.
