On August 4, at 11:27 p.m., East Division Patrol members responded to a stabbing at Birch Cove Park in Dartmouth. Upon arrival it was confirmed there had been a fight involving a number of young males and three of them had been stabbed by what was believed to be a single suspect, who had fled prior to police arriving. The three victims, two age 18 and one 19, were transported to hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries. Several police units including a K-9 unit scoured the area for the suspect and attempted to identify witnesses. The Forensic Identification Unit attended and processed the scene. As a result of speaking with witnesses a 16-year-old male was identified as a person of interest by responding members. Officers searched for him in the hours following the incident and he was located and arrested exiting a small wooded area in the 300 block of Portland Street just after 3 a.m. The investigation by the Integrated General Investigation Section is ongoing and charges are anticipated.
