On April 2, at 12:40 a.m.,officers responded to an assault in progress in an apartment in the 0-100 block of Courtney Road in Dartmouth. As police were arriving on scene, the suspect set a fire in the kitchen of the apartment., then jumped out a 2nd floor window and escaped on foot. East Division officers set up containment in the area, a K-9 unit was brought in to conduct a track and within 40 minutes, the suspect was located and taken into custody. The 40-year-old woman victim of the assault was not injured, the damage to the apartment as a result of the fire was minimal.
The suspect was held in custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face multiple charges including assault, assault police, resist arrest, forcible confinement and property damage.
