At 4 p.m. officers responded to the area of the QEII Health Sciences Centre for a report of a man with a firearm. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed the man with the firearm outside the hospital in the area of Bell Road. Numerous units responded, including patrol officers, the K-9 Unit and members of the Emergency Response Team given that we were concerned for the safety of the public, the suspect as well as officers at the scene. The K-9 Unit was successful in taking the man into custody and the firearm he had in his possession is believed to be a replica handgun. The 18-year-old man is currently in police custody and the matter remains under investigation. Thankfully, no members of the public were injured during this incident.
