A man sought by police for stealing the purse of a visually impaired woman has been arrested and charged.

On May 1, at 6:40 p.m., the woman was shopping at Pete’s Frootique on Dresden Row and while she was busy looking at items, a man approached her shopping cart and stole her purse. The purse was later found from a garbage can on Dresden Row and the victim’s money was missing.

On May 6, police released pictures of the suspect taken from video surveillance. Police received several tips from the public following the publication of the pictures. Shortly before noon yesterday, patrol officers arrested the suspect without incident at a residence on Morris Street in Halifax.

A 43-year-old Halifax man will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on June 30 to face charges of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and breach of probation.
