Police have charged a man following a sexual assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday in Halifax.
At approximately 1:20 a.m., an officer on patrol came across a taxi parked at the corner of Atlantic and Brussel Streets in Halifax. As the officer approached, she observed suspicious activity inside the vehicle. After further investigation, it was determined that the driver had sexually assaulted the passenger. The taxi driver was arrested at the scene without incident and the victim, a 26-year-old woman, was transported to hospital by EHS and later released.
Thirty-nine-year-old Bassam Aladin Al-Rawi was held in custody over the weekend. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court this morning to face a charge of sexual assault.
