April traffic unit update

In their continued effort to address road safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit is focussing on crosswalk safety throughout the month of April.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to slow down, pay attention and adjust their driving for the conditions. There is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether it is marked or not, and drivers must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

In March, the unit focussed on distracted driving. Officers issued numerous Summary Offences Tickets for distracted driving offences during the month including 180 for using a hand-held cellular telephone or text messaging on a communication device while operating a vehicle on highway.
