Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Crews are preparing to pave the approaches to the new roundabout near the Halifax North Common, which will require additional closures on Cogswell and North Park streets on Monday, Aug. 17.

At 7 a.m., Cogswell will shut down between Bauer Street and North Park, and North Park will close from Cogswell to Cornwallis Street. These closures are expected to stay in place until the paving work is complete at about 7 p.m. on Monday evening.

In the event of rainy weather, the paving work and closures will be postponed to the same times on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Barring any weather delays, the municipality expects the roundabout to open by Aug. 24. That date will be confirmed later next week. Further work will be required in the coming weeks on the nearby greenway trail and the new pedestrian plazas on the Common.

The Cogswell roundabout is part of the North Park Intersection Redesign. The two-year project is about more than reconfiguring intersections — it is a bold approach to a larger civic project that includes many disciplines, departments and goals. Redesigning the area allows for significant neighbourhood improvements, including upgraded street, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and high quality public spaces.
