Investigators with the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section have charged a man involved in a stabbing that occurred last month in Halifax.

On March 23, at 2:37 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a stabbing in the 2300 block of Gottingen Street. Two women were in a residence when a man known to them entered the apartment and stabbed them before leaving the area on foot. They were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This was not a random act.

On April 26, at 4 p.m., officers arrested 20-year-old Maurice Edward Downey without incident. He was held in custody over the weekend and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today. He faces two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
