Attempted Robbery

At 6:20 p.m. on December 21, 2013 a 48-year-old woman was walking through a vacant lot in the 2400 block of Creighton St in Halifax. She noticed a man who was walking towards her from the opposite direction. As the man approached her he stepped in front of her to block her way. When she told him to get out of the way the man produced a knife and told her to give him everything she had. The woman then yelled for help to another man that she knew and was standing not far away. This man intervened in the situation and the suspect began to chase him with the knife. The woman was able to safely walk away from the situation. The man who was being chased was also able to safely get away from the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

At 8:30 P.M. the suspect was arrested by Halifax Regional Police on Sunrise Walk in Halifax. The knife was recovered on the suspect. The 56-year-old man is currently in police custody and will be appearing in Halifax provincial Court on Monday December 22, 2013 to face charges of attempt robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
