Two men are facing charges after a break and enter yesterday afternoon in Bedford.

At 12:45 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a break and enter in-progress in the 0-100 block of Collins Road. A woman was home alone when she heard the bell at her front door. She did not answer the door as she did not know the lone man and he eventually left the area. Approximately 30 minutes later, the woman observed two men on her back deck and heard her back door being forced open. She called police and when she screamed, the men left the property on foot before entering a vehicle and leaving the area. The victim was not physically injured.

Officers responded to the area quickly and located the vehicle on Kearney Lake Road by Hamshaw Drive where both suspects were arrested without incident. Break tools and bear spray were recovered from the vehicle.

Thirty-four-year-old Derek Thomas MacPhee and 33-year-old Clinton James Christie, both of Halifax, were held in custody overnight. They will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today to face charges of break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of break-in instruments.
