The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following program and service level adjustments resulting from the 2022 ICF Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships (Canoe ’22) taking place on Lake Banook from August 3 to 7, 2022.
Road Closures
The municipality has previously announced the following road closures:
Henry Findlay Park, Lions Beach Park, and Grahams Grove will be closed from Thursday, July 14 to Tuesday, August 9.
The Nowlan Street parking lot will be closed from 12:05 a.m. on Thursday, July 14 and will reopen at 11:55 p.m. on Monday, August 8.
The Birch Cove Park parking lot will be closed from Thursday, July 28 to Tuesday, August 9, and Birch Cove Park will be closed from Monday, August 1 to Thursday, August 4.
Banook Avenue and Boathouse Lane will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 and will reopen at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Local access will be maintained.
Prince Albert Road will be closed between Hawthorne Street and Sinclair Street from 12:05 a.m. on Monday, August 1 and will reopen at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Local access to Prince Albert Road, along with Bolton Terrace and Nowlan Street, will be maintained.
The multi-use path adjacent to Prince Albert Road will remain open during event hours but will be closed at night.
Rixdale Drive will be closed from from 12:05 a.m. on Monday, August 1 and will reopen at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Local access will be maintained.
Residents living on impacted streets have also received a direct mail piece from the event organizers outlining road closures.
Parking
Parking will not be permitted on the following roads:
Hawthorne Street, between Crichton Avenue and Prince Albert Street, from July 29 until August 8.
Sinclair Street, from July 29 until August 8.
Elliot Street, in front of Henry Finley Park, from July 29 until August 8.
Halifax Transit
Residents are reminded that Halifax Transit will be offering free transit service on Fridays and free Alderney Ferry service on Saturdays as part of the municipality’s Free Fares Fridays & Free Sail Saturdays program.
Parks & Recreation Facilities, Programs and Services
Birch Cove Beach will be closed Monday, August 1 to Monday, August 8.
Civic Events
Residents are reminded of Natal Day weekend programming, including the Natal Day fireworks show over the Halifax-Dartmouth Harbour on Saturday, July 30 at 10 p.m.

La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax informe les résidents des ajustements suivants au niveau des programmes et des services municipaux découlant des Championnats du monde de canoë-kayak sprint et de paracanoë 2022 de la FIC (Canoe ’22) qui se dérouleront sur le lac Banook du 3 au 7 août 2022.
Fermetures de routes
La municipalité a précédemment annoncé les fermetures de routes suivantes :
Parc Henry Findlay, parc Lions Beach et Grahams Grove seront fermés du jeudi 14 juillet au mardi 9 août.
Le stationnement de la rue Nowlan sera fermé à partir de 0 h 5 le jeudi 14 juillet et rouvrira à 23 h 55 le lundi 8 août.
Le stationnement du parc Birch Cove sera fermé du jeudi 28 juillet au mardi 9 août, et le parc Birch Cove sera fermé du lundi 1er août au jeudi 4 août.
L’avenue Banook et la voie Boathouse seront fermées à partir de 6 h le samedi 30 juillet et rouvriront à 23 h 55 le dimanche 7 août. L’accès local sera maintenu.
Le chemin Prince Albert sera fermé entre les rues Hawthorne et Sinclair à partir de 0 h 5 le lundi 1er août et rouvrira à 23 h 55 le dimanche 7 août. L’accès local au chemin Prince Albert, ainsi qu’à Bolton Terrace et à la rue Nowlan, sera maintenu.
Le sentier polyvalent adjacent au chemin Prince Albert demeurera ouvert pendant les heures d’ouverture, mais sera fermé la nuit.
La promenade Rixdale sera fermée à partir de 0 h 5 le lundi 1er août et rouvrira à 23 h 55 le dimanche 7 août. L’accès local sera maintenu.
Les résidents des rues touchées ont également reçu un courrier direct des organisateurs de l’événement, qui décrivait les fermetures de routes.
Stationnement
Le stationnement n’est pas autorisé sur les routes suivantes :
La rue Hawthorne, entre l’avenue Crichton et la rue Prince Albert, du 29 juillet au 8 août.
La rue Sinclair, du 29 juillet au 8 août.
La rue Elliot, devant le parc Henry Finley, du 29 juillet au 8 août.
Halifax Transit
On rappelle aux résidents qu’Halifax Transit offrira le transport en commun gratuit les vendredis et le service de traversier Alderney gratuit les samedis dans le cadre du programme de tarifs gratuits du vendredi et de trajet en traversier gratuit de la municipalité.
Parcs et installations, programmes et services de loisirs
La plage Birch Cove sera fermée du lundi 1er août au lundi 8 août.
Événements civiques
On rappelle aux résidents que la programmation de la fin de semaine de la Fête de la fondation, y compris du spectacle pyrotechnique de la Fête de la fondation au-dessus du port de Halifax-Dartmouth, aura lieu le samedi 30 juillet à 22 h.
