Charges Laid in Early Morning Motor Vehicle Crash

A man and a male youth are facing charges after a motor vehicle crash early this morning in Halifax.

At approximately 4:04 a.m., officers attempted to pull over a vehicle on the St. Margaret’s Bay Road. The vehicle did not stop and proceeded on Highway 103 towards Halifax. The driver lost control of the vehicle as it took the North West Arm Drive exit off Highway 102. Two passengers fled the scene and were later located and arrested by a K-9 unit. The driver of the vehicle was injured in the crash and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The vehicle involved in the crash was later determined to have been stolen overnight. Both inbound and exit ramps at the location were closed for several hours. Halifax Regional Police contacted SIRT about this incident and they have launched an investigation into this matter.

Nineteen-year-old Christian Carey of Halifax faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today.

A fourteen-year-old male youth from Halifax faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and six breaches of court orders. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Youth Court later today.

An eighteen-year-old man from Halifax remains in police custody in hospital.

The investigation continues and further charges are pending.
