Charges Laid in Robberies

Four people have been charged in connection with three robberies over the last two months in Halifax.

On May 24 at approximately 2:42 a.m., police responded to a robbery in the 1900 block of Brunswick Street. A man was approached by two female youths who asked to use his phone. They ran off with the phone and met up with two other women. When the man ran after them he was assaulted and robbed by two men. Jakio Williams and another man were charged in this incident. The two women and one of the female youths are now facing charges in connection with that incident.

On June 28 at approximately 2:41 a.m., police responded to a robbery that occurred in the area of South Park and Inglis Streets. A 19-year-old man was walking in the area with two women when he was assaulted and robbed by three males. The suspects stole his wallet and cell phone and fled on foot.

On July 9 at 5:34 a.m., police responded to a robbery in the 1400 block of Carlton Street in Halifax. Two males, both armed with guns, entered the residence and threatened two male occupants. One of the suspects sprayed one of the occupants with a sensory irritant. The suspects fled with various electronics and other goods. At the time of the incident several people were at the residence including two female guests.

The investigation by officers assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section led to the arrest of Fatouma Youssouf Abdi and Breagh Michelle Marie MacNeil on July 9. Officers searched an apartment in the 1000 block of South Park Street that evening and seized items connected to the incidents. The two women were charged at that time with the robbery on Carlton Street and they appeared in court on July 11. They were arrested again later that day after they were observed breaching their court imposed conditions. Jakio Williams and a 17-year-old female were also arrested at that time.

A 17-year-old female from Dartmouth faces the following charges:Section 344 CC - Robbery Section 354(1) CC - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Section 91(1) CC - Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (2 counts) Section 91(1) CC - Unsafe Storage of a FirearmSection 88 CC - Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (2 counts)

Twenty-four-year-old Jakio Williams of Bermuda faces the following charges:Section 344 CC - Robbery (2 counts) Section 348(1)(b) CC - Break and Enter Section 351(2) CC - Disguise with Intent (2 counts) Section 354(1) CC - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Section 279(2) CC - Forcible Confinement (2 counts) Section 267(a) CC - Assault with a Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm (2 counts) Section 264.1(1) CC - Uttering Threats (2 counts) Section 91(1) CC - Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (2 counts) Section 88 CC - Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (2 counts) Section 85(2)(a) CC - Using Firearm while Committing Offence (2 counts) Section 91(1) CC - Unsafe Storage of a Firearm

The investigation is continuing and additional arrests and/or charges have not been ruled out. Due to Williams being from another country investigators have contacted Canada Border Services.
