Charges laid in two separate drug searches

Three people face charges in relation to two separate drug searches conducted last night by the Drug Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division.

At 9 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 1200 block of Queen Street in Halifax. Officers seized a quantity of cocaine, MDMA (Ecstasy), drug paraphernalia and cash. Twenty-six-year-old Jonathan George Laing of Halifax was arrested at the scene without incident. He was held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Shortly after midnight, officers executed another search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Braemar Drive in Dartmouth. Officers seized a quantity of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Two men were arrested at the scene without incident. Twenty-year-old Peter George Schmid and 19-year-old Matthew Lawrence Hatfield-Power, both of Dartmouth, are each facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. They were held in custody overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
