Charges laid in vehicle/pedestrian collision

Halifax Regional Police has charged a driver following a vehicle/pedestrian collision yesterday afternoon in Halifax.

At 3:55 p.m. on April 30, Halifax Regional Police responded to a vehicle/pedestrian collision at Robie St. and Coburg Rd. A 23-year-old woman was crossing Robie St. in a marked crosswalk when an SUV proceeding south on Robie St. failed to stop at the red light and struck her. She was transported to the QEII with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 70-year-old male driver of the SUV was issued two summary offence tickets. The first ticket was issued under section 125(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, which carries a fine of $693.95 and four points on a driver’s license upon conviction. The second ticket was issued under section 93(1)(e) of the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to stop at a red light; it carries a fine of $176.45 and two points on a driver’s license upon conviction.
