District 6 (Harbourview-Burnside-Dartmouth East) Coun. Tony Mancini was elected by acclamation today by his fellow councillors to serve for the next year as deputy mayor for Halifax Regional Municipality.

The new deputy mayor takes over from Deputy Mayor Waye Mason who held the position for the past 12 months.

“I have great respect for this Council and value the important work that has been achieved thus far,” Deputy Mayor Mancini said. “This is an excellent opportunity to bring my business and life experience, passion for the municipality, and strong work ethic to the role of deputy mayor.

“I have enjoyed my role in municipal politics immensely and I look forward to this opportunity to represent my colleagues and broaden my responsibilities in serving the citizens of our municipality. My greatest satisfaction comes from participating in the democratic process through healthy debate and bringing people together to reach a consensus,” Mancini said.

Deputy Mayor Mancini has been a member of Regional Council since winning a by-election on Jan. 23, 2016. In that time, he has been an active and engaged councillor in many municipality initiatives, such as creating a funding partnership for the Dartmouth North outdoor library, improving Farrell Park to be a safe community park space, lobbying for improved Access-A-Bus service, taking the lead on initiatives that support a healthy environment, and advocating on behalf of our most vulnerable communities.

Mancini serves on many municipal committees, boards and commissions, and continues to look for opportunities to make positive contributions as an elected official.

Known as a productivity expert, Mancini has more than 30 years of experience in training and consulting. Originally from Cape Breton, Mancini has lived in Dartmouth for 24 years.

Mancini has always been involved in community initiatives such as the School Advisory Council, coaching, Halifax Progress Club, and the Homebridge Youth Society. He’s also passionate about building better communities through citizen engagement.

Tony and his wife Sharon have two children, Lucas and Michaella, and their dog Spirit.
