A man faces charges in connection with passing counterfeit bills in HRM.

Over the last week, there have been four cases where someone has passed counterfeit bills. Three cases involved $50 bills and the fourth case involved a $20 bill. All four bills were from the Scenes of Canada Series. Investigators are working on this matter and they believe that at least three of the cases are connected. On Friday afternoon at approximately 3 p.m., investigators from the HRP/RCMP Integrated Financial Crime Unit arrested a man in Dartmouth in connection with the three cases involving the $50 bills.

Thirty-one-year-old David William MacDonald of Dartmouth faces three counts of uttering counterfeit money and three counts of breaching his conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.

The Financial Crime Unit reminds merchants/business owners of the importance of taking a close look at any cash before accepting it as tender. Anyone who believes someone is attempting to pass a bill that appears counterfeit, or who comes into possession of a bill they believe is counterfeit should contact police immediately.
