Death ruled a homicide and victim identified

The death that occurred yesterday morning in Dartmouth has been ruled a homicide.

On September 1 at approximately 2:50 a.m., a man called Halifax Regional Police to report that he had been shot. Responding officers located the man behind John McNeil Elementary School on Leaman Drive. The man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Based on yesterday’s autopsy, the Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide and investigators have identified the victim as 48-year-old Rickey Walker of Dartmouth. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

The investigation, led by the Homicide Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, is ongoing. Investigators remain on scene and are continuing to canvass the neighbourhood. Ground Search and Rescue is also on scene assisting investigators with the search for potential evidence.
