Allegations against our officers are very troubling, particularly given that police officers are expected to be beyond reproach. As can be expected, these situations are difficult for the department and everyone involved.
We have asked our officers to continue to provide the best possible service to our citizens to remind them of the great pride we take in serving and protecting our community.

Domestic Violence Charge Against Halifax Regional Police OfficerSIRT - January 24, 2013 1:58 PM
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) laid a charge against a member of the Halifax Regional Police today, Jan. 24.
Const. Desmond Lambert, 41, is charged with assaulting his wife on Jan. 3.
At about 8:30 a.m. that day, a woman called 911 from an Armdale home to report an assault. Halifax Regional Police responded to the home and arrested a male officer. He is to appear in Halifax provincial court on Feb. 19.
In accordance with the Police Act, the Halifax Regional Police immediately referred the incident to the Serious Incident Response Team, which assumed responsibility for the investigation.
SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald.
The team can independently launch an investigation, or begin one after a referral from a chief of police, the head of the RCMP in Nova Scotia or the Minister of Justice. It can also investigate after a complaint from the public.
A public report summarizing the results of the investigation must be filed within three months after it is finished.
