Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – A few days of cold weather has helped recreation staff finish the ice-making process at the Emera Oval, which means they’re all set to open for the 2014/15 winter season on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The Emera Oval is the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec — approximately 55,000 square feet, or the same as three NHL hockey rinks! Weather permitting, the ice surface will be open for daily public skates throughout the winter and will once again offer free skating lessons for people of all ages.

Free equipment rentals, including skates and helmets, are available on site for those who don’t have their own. A valid government-issued photo ID is required to borrow equipment.

Please note that children 12 and under are required to wear a CSA-approved multi-impact helmet at all times on the ice, and others are encouraged to do the same, for their own safety.
