Halifax Regional Police is informing citizens who use Point Pleasant Park to expect an increased police presence this Sunday evening.

A large number of motorists have been gathering in the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park on Sunday evenings to participate in or observe vehicle stunts. HRP has received reports of dangerous driving, alcohol consumption, vandalism and littering. Due to the large number of people attending these informal meetings, there are concerns about the safety of the individuals involved. Access to the lower parking lot for other park users is also restricted by these activities. This has been an ongoing issue for a number of years and it starts to ramp up every spring.

This Sunday evening, Community Response and Patrol Officers will be monitoring the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park to prevent illegal and dangerous activities and ensure the public’s safety. Officers will monitor activities in the area and issue summary offence tickets should the situation warrant it.

Citizens are encouraged to call police at 902-490-5020 if they observe any suspicious or dangerous activities in the area. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip - Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
