A man who escaped from the custody of sheriff officers this morning will face charges.

At 9:30 a.m., police responded to a report that a 48-year-old man had escaped from the custody of sheriff officers while he was being transported to Dartmouth Provincial Court. The initial investigation indicates that the man damaged the vehicle during his escape and fled on foot in the area of Mount Hope Road. Patrol officers and a K-9 unit conducted a comprehensive search. At approximately 1:30 p.m., the man contacted police and arranged to turn himself in. He was arrested without incident on Marilyn Drive in Dartmouth and transported to Dartmouth Provincial Court.

He faces new charges of escaping lawful custody and property damage, and will appear in court at a later date.
