Police were called to the scene at 7:37 a.m. after a tractor-trailer collided with a minivan. Preliminary investigation revealed that the rig was travelling southbound and the trailer portion of the rig became separated from the tractor, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a minivan heading northbound. The lone occupant of the minivan, a male driver believed to be in his forties, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Barrington Street, between Africville Road and the MacKay Bridge will remain closed to traffic in both directions for the next couple of hours while the Accident Investigation Unit conducts their investigation. We ask motorists to use alternate routes.
