February traffic unit update

In their continued effort to address road safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit is focussing their efforts on crosswalk safety throughout the month of February.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to slow down, pay attention and adjust their driving for the conditions. There is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether it is marked or not, and drivers must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Given the winter driving conditions, pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

In January, the unit focussed on driving appropriately for the weather conditions. Officers issued a total of 2,506 Summary Offences Tickets during the month for a variety of offences, of which 625 were issued by the Integrated Traffic Unit.
