Through the course of the investigation into yesterday’s incident, a third person involved in the original home invasion on August 8 was arrested without incident in the 0-100 block of Ruben Court in Dartmouth at 10:35 p.m. last night. The 30-year-old Dartmouth man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today where he will face charges of robbery and breach of probation.

On August 24 at 4 p.m., police responded to Ruben Court in Dartmouth to a report of a man waving a handgun. Multiple patrol units and a K-9 Unit responded, and after a brief foot pursuit an 18-year-old man was arrested without incident. Officers found ammunition and drugs on his person and located a handgun nearby that he allegedly dropped while fleeing from police. Investigators learned that the accused attempted to shoot the 25-year-old male victim during an altercation but the firearm malfunctioned and thankfully no one was injured. Further investigation revealed that the altercation between the victim and the accused resulted from an alleged home invasion that occurred in the 100 block of Kennedy Drive on August 8. The accused was identified by a family member of the victim as the person who had committed the home invasion. A 20-year-old man who was present during the altercation was also arrested in relation to the home invasion.

Both men will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court tomorrow (August 25).

The 18-year-old man faces the following charges in relation to the August 24 incident:

  • Attempt murder
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Careless use of firearm
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of firearm obtained by crime
  • Possession of a firearm with no license/certificate

Both men face the following charges in relation to the August 8 incident:

  • Robbery x2
  • Assault with a weapon x2
  • Pointing a firearm x2
  • Possession weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of a fire with no license/certificate
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Unsafe storage of firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of firearm obtained by crime
  • Use firearm in commission of offence

The 20-year-old man is also facing two counts of uttering threats in relation to the August 8 incident.
