GO# 12-133943 – Motor Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision/Hit and Run

On Tuesday, September 11 at 4:20 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle-pedestrian collision/hit and run that occurred near the intersection of Baker Drive and Portland Street in Dartmouth. According to witnesses, the 25-year-old woman was seated at a bus stop located near the TD Bank when an eastbound vehicle on Portland Street swerved, jumped the curb and struck her. The driver briefly exited his vehicle before fleeing the scene despite the efforts of a witness to prevent his departure. Witnesses were able to obtain a suspect description and a vehicle description and licence plate number. At approximately 6:30 p.m, members of the West Division Quick Response Team located and arrested 25-year-old man from the Halifax area.

The accused has been held in custody pending his appearance in Dartmouth Provincial Court in the morning. The accused will face charges of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop or remain at the scene of a motor vehicle collision.

The victim in this matter was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was later released from hospital.
