At 4 p.m. on October 26, a 31-year-old man contacted police to report a weapon-related incident in the 0-100 block of Dawn Street in Dartmouth. The victim had attended a residence to talk to another man about work that had been recently done to his vehicle. The man produced a weapon and the victim fled the scene and contacted police. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and at 4:20 p.m. a 42-year-old man was arrested without incident. He was found to be in possession of ammunition and brass knuckles. A search warrant was later executed at his residence and two rifles were seized. The accused was held in police custody overnight and will have a hearing on Sunday morning. He faces the following charges:
- Unsafe storage of a firearm and ammunition contrary to section 86(1) CC - 2 counts
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88(1) CC
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to section 91(1) CC
- Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 91(2) CC
