Halifax Regional Police is investigating a report of a man who approached a  child near South Woodside Elementary School in Dartmouth. At approximately 12 p.m., an 11-year-old male student was on his lunch break  and was near the school when he was approached by a man driving a black SUV style vehicle.  The driver invited the student to get into the car. He was refused and the vehicle left in an unknown direction of travel. The driver is described as a white man with short gray hair,  a small patch of gray hair on his chin and hazel colored eyes. No clothing description was provided. The student reported the matter to  school administration shortly thereafter, and they in turn notified police of the incident. This man has not yet been located.

We would like to speak with this individual and request the public’s assistance in reporting any sightings of him. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police at 490-5016 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

We also encourage parents to reinforce with their children the importance of not talking to strangers and what to do if they are confronted by a stranger.
