GO#14-140940 Deck Collapse

At 1:47 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, HRP Patrol Officers, Halifax Fire & Emergency and EHS responded to the 900 block of Brussels Street in Halifax to a deck collapse. Approximately seven people were on a third story deck which suddenly collapsed onto a second-story deck which also had people on it. The deck then crashed to the pavement. EHS transported five people to hospital and one went on their own. Injuries sustained are serious but not considered life-threatening at this time. The injured people consist of four women and two men and all are in their early 20’s. An identification officer attended the scene which is being held by police until an HRM building inspector can attend. Officers in the Integrated General Investigation Section will continue to investigate this incident.

UPDATE (as of Sunday, September 28): A search warrant was executed at the involved property to allow for further processing and investigation. Police are no longer on scene and tenants were allowed to return to the residence. Police are continuing to investigate this incident along with other municipal officials.
