HRP Sports Pals: Cops take to the soccer field with youth

Tomorrow, officers will team up with several communities in Halifax to offer HRP Sports Pals, a one-day soccer camp for youth.

Partnering with Dalhousie University Athletics, approximately ten officers will teach soccer skills and drills to 40 youth on Wickwire Field from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the day culminating in a fun-filled soccer match and cool down in the Dalplex pool. Community Response Officers who work in Central, West and East Divisions selected the participating youth.

HRP Sports Pals is the brainchild of retired Constable Dwight Hennigar who believes that police officers have many strengths and skills which they can share with the community, particularly youth who may not have the same opportunities as others.

Media are invited to attend Sports Pals, and are welcome to come kick a few soccer balls with the kids. Constable Nancy Miller will be on site for media interviews.
