In their continued effort to address road safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, members of the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit are concentrating on driving appropriately for weather conditions.
Members of the Unit will be monitoring vehicles to ensure they are properly clearing their vehicles of snow and ice and driving appropriately for the road conditions. Motorists are reminded that winter driving conditions throughout HRM can vary dramatically and require the driver’s full attention.
The Unit’s focus during December was Operation Christmas. More than 60 checkpoints targeting impaired drivers were conducted resulting in three criminal impaired driving charges and six driver’s license suspensions. During the month, a total of 698 Summary Offence Tickets were issued for a variety of Motor Vehicle Act offences.
