July Traffic Unit update

In their continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit will focus on speed enforcement and the fight against impaired driving during the month of July.

With warmer weather upon us and the school year now over, the Traffic Unit encourages citizens to watch their speed and to be aware of cyclists, pedestrians and children playing on or near the street. Motorists are reminded that the faster you drive, the less time you have to react.

Driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs puts everyone in danger. Police encourage citizens to help keep our roads safe by calling 9-1-1 if you believe someone is driving while impaired. Remember: if you drink, don’t drive.

The unit’s focus in June was speed enforcement. Officers issued 1,483 Summary Offence Tickets during the month for a range of Motor Vehicle Act violations.
