Man Charged with Assaulting a Police Officer and Property Damage

A man faces charges after assaulting a police officer and damaging police property.

Yesterday, an investigator from an outside police agency was interviewing a male suspect who was in custody at HRM police headquarters. During the interview, the suspect attempted to damage the video surveillance equipment with a chair and damaged a computer by dousing it with water. The suspect also threatened to kill the officer and spat on him. The officer was not injured.

Thirty-seven-year-old Thomas Ted Barrett is facing charges of assaulting a police officer, uttering death threats and two counts of property damage. He was held overnight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today.
