A man faces multiple charges after he almost crashed into a marked police cruiser in Dartmouth last night.

At approximately 11:10 p.m. two officers were in a marked cruiser travelling west bound on Main Street and had just passed Helene Avenue. A vehicle pulled out from Lakecrest Drive onto Main Street without yielding to the police vehicle causing the officers to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision. The officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued down Main Street, turned onto Hartlen Street and pulled into a parking lot.

As the officers approached the vehicle they learned that the license plate on the vehicle had been reported stolen. The male driver was exhibiting signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving. A search of the vehicle resulted in a quantity of powder and crack cocaine being seized. The man was transported to headquarters where he refused to provide a breath sample.

Thirty-two-year-old Troy Alexander Pye of Dartmouth faces charges of impaired operation, refusing to provide a breath sample, possession of stolen property and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.
