Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality has lifted enforcement of the overnight winter parking ban until further notice.

The municipality wants to remind residents that the ban is in effect from now until March 31; however it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice events, when it will run from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists are advised that roads are treated and passable but take caution as lots of snow/ice pack remains. Sidewalk and bus stop clearing will continue throughout the day today, as well as sanding/salting of streets and sidewalks as required. Please note that another winter weather system is forecast for later this week and therefore additional resources have been dispatched to begin clearing bus stops and removing snow piles from areas with limited storage in the downtown core.

Residents are asked to stay informed and plan ahead by securing off-street parking now for when the overnight winter parking ban is enforced.

The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for alerts to your phone or email. Sign up online, email contactus@311.halifax.ca or call 311. Residents should note that the registration page is currently not compatible with CHROME web browsers and is not accessible through your smartphone; please use either Internet Explorer or Firefox on a desktop computer. The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

For those who signed up last season, there is no need to sign up again, unless your personal information has changed. You will continue to receive notifications this season when the ban will be enforced. Standard text messaging rates apply.
