November traffic unit update

In their continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the Integrated Traffic Unit will focus on crosswalks safety during the month of November.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to slow down, pay attention and adjust their driving for the conditions. There is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether it is marked or not, and drivers must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Pedestrians are reminded to make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

The Unit’s focus in October was inattentive/distracted driving. Officers issued 525 Summary Offence Tickets during the month for a range of Motor Vehicle Act violations, of which 331 were for using a cell phone while driving.
