October vehicle/pedestrian collision stats

 As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.

During the month of October, there were 24 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Year over year, this represents an increase from the 19 incidents reported in October 2014; however, for the first ten months of 2015, pedestrian/vehicle collisions decreased 17 per cent when compared to the same period in 2014.

Fifty-four per cent (82 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported between January 1 and October 31, 2015 occurred in crosswalks, compared to 61 percent (113 incidents) in 2014. Of the 157 pedestrians involved:

 

•             44 reported no injury

•             76 experienced minor injuries

•             24 experienced moderate injuries

•             3 experienced severe injuries

•             2 passed away as a result of the collision

•             8 did not report their injuries to police
