Halifax Regional Police is informing citizens who use Point Pleasant Park to expect an increased police presence on Sunday evenings.

In the past few weeks, the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park has seen an increasingly larger presence of motorists on Sunday evenings who are gathering to participate in or observe vehicle stunts. There have been reports of dangerous driving, alcohol consumption, vandalism and littering. Due to the large number of people attending these informal meetings, there are concerns about the safety of the individuals involved. Access to the lower parking lot for other park users is also restricted by these activities.

Starting this Sunday evening, HRP will be monitoring the lower parking lot of Point Pleasant Park to prevent illegal and dangerous activities and ensure the public’s safety. Officers will monitor activities in the area and issue summary offence tickets should the situation warrant it. The area will also be monitored with the use of mobile video surveillance.

Citizens are encouraged to call police at 490-5020 if they observe any suspicious or dangerous activities in the area. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at http://www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip - Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
