The Sexual Assault Investigation Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a sexual assault that occurred in mid-September and was reported to police on October 31.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, September 18, a 27-year-old woman was jogging near the soccer field off Micmac Boulevard in Dartmouth. A man grabbed the victim from behind, forced her into a nearby wooded area and violently sexually assaulted her. The suspect is believed to have fled on a trail in the area. He's described as a white man, 25-30 years-old, over 6’ tall, with short brown hair and a pierced left ear. At the time of the incident, he was wearing dark nylon wind pants and a dark top.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen anything out of the ordinary in the area that night and are asking them or anyone with information to call 490-5333. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.

Sexual assault investigations are very complex. As part of our trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims to ensure they’re willing to proceed with a police investigation, which includes giving a statement about the incident and providing a description of the suspect if possible. Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered; sexual assault investigators have been taking these measures since meeting with the victim on Saturday, and we’re now in a position to report this incident to the public.
