Officers with the Guns and Gangs Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested a man following a home invasion that occurred in Halifax last night.
On September 29 at 9:57 p.m., police responded to the 1000 block of Brenton Street for a weapons call. Police were advised that a man knocked at the door of the residence and then sprayed the 31-year-old male occupant in the face with a sensory irritant. The occupant ran to his bedroom, locked the door and called police. The occupant was treated at the scene and he was unable to provide a description of the suspect. Police do not believe this to be a random act and the investigation is ongoing. Officers are looking to speak with anyone who may have any knowledge of this incident.
Based on evidence observed in the residence, a search warrant was obtained and at approximately 2 a.m., a search was conducted. Officers seized a quantity of marihuana, cannabis resin along with drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash. The male occupant was then arrested without incident.
The 31-year-old Halifax man faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in marihuana and possession for the purpose of trafficking in cannabis resin. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on November 8.
