Police arrest two suspects in three-year-old homicide investigation

Investigators with the Major Crime Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division made two arrests today in connection with the homicide of Keya Simon.

At 11:20 p.m. on January 8, 2011 Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a stabbing at 117 Pinecrest Drive in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers found 19-year-old Keya Knita Simon unresponsive inside the front doors of the apartment building. Her 32-year-old sister had also been stabbed. Police believe a party was being held at one of the apartments at this location. A group of people known to the victims arrived at the party and an altercation ensued. The altercation spilled out onto the front lawn of the apartment building, resulting in both Keya and her sister being stabbed. Keya was pronounced dead at the scene and her sister was treated for non-life threatening injuries and later released from hospital.

Earlier today, investigators arrested two suspects in connection with Keya’s homicide and the stabbing of her sister. A 25-year-old Dartmouth man was arrested without incident in Dartmouth and a 25-year-old man, originally from Dartmouth, was arrested in New Brunswick. They are currently in custody and being interviewed.
